April 2019

Well we have been quite busy since the beginning of the year with tasks from fixing gutters after heavy rain to a lending library for a primary school.
The in between have been the likes of
  • Planting trees and bark at a playgroup
  • A bit of weed eating of late
  • We repaired some planter boxes, that was a jog and a half but came out real good in the end.
  • Replaced a rotting walkway with new decking, took a few days
  • Made (assisted) a lawn clipping bin. They want it moved now. A better place to be quite honest.
  • Quite a few domestic repairs as like gates-windows-down pipes walls-locks-doors-latches-shelves etc
  • Still doing pick ups deliveries when called upon.
  • A slide was cracked at a play center. Fixed it (a job I can tell ya) and a coupla day later some (expletive) vandalised it. I think they're going to replace it. Not too keen to go and have a look.
  • We have been arranging tradies with people for pro jobs.
  • Still getting a few “walk ins for odd jobs, I try to encourage them to do it themselves where impracticable.
We still have supported visitors every 2nd week, as well as the regulars on their days.
With the rain a few holes have been discovered that will be patched up in finer times.
So in all, everything is going pretty good.
Cheers

Janurary 2019

OK, the year has started, up to now we have been between quite and very busy.
It has been good, ranging from being asked to climb through a window to open a door to repairing earthquake damaged items.
We are currently making a lending library for Hataitai School.

We are still ongoing with Khandallah Play Group maintenance this can be quite challenging but good.

We have placed a hand grip up a step for Linda, repaired gate and patio steps for Rose, made rat tunnels a heap of weta motels, rerouted watering hoses, heaps of deliveries, pick up and drop offs.
We have about 5 - 10 peoples who come in each week for various reasons as well as “one off jobs”, some returning a few times and private projects.
We are involved with Hataitai Bowling Club and Community  some quite challenging, again good.
They are great people.

We have a few bigger jobs ahead of us this year, we should be able to handle them without too much drama. (famous last words..I hope not)

Well until later, let the year unfold with what ever it brings.
Cheers

September 2018

Will add to this after  *****

Gidday, we have been quite busy since we have been at Hataitai, it's been brilliant, the Community aspect has been superb, the only word for it.
We have done and been involved in a myriad of situations off and on-site, with some interesting task laid down before us, ranging from house repairs to repairs on a cistern. A lovely elderly woman needed weather maintenance.
An urgent mailbox repair (nice one too) in Karori. Enjoyed the beer. Thank you Gloria.
Another fold down bed for a bedsit.
We had s sheet of vinyl 6x10m we managed to dispose of, lot of uses came to mind but, at that time we hadn't had the storage.

Current
We are currently making Weta Motels for playgroups. kindys, and home units. These are small (or larger) places for wetas to live and are protected from predators. Zoolander have been our referal in this. Theirs permanent – ours movable to find the right spot.

We refurbished some nice chrome and glass shelving.
Still doing maintenance for a couple playgroups.
It looks as if we'll be doing more tunnel traps, we made 100 for Northland Predator Free.
Just got an e-mail from Predator Free Wellington they will need some.

I won't add a pic we've all seen them. But will do if necessary. They are going for $25.00, we'll sort one out for $20, if anyone wants to be involved. It's a donation, if anyone is a bit squeeeemish,Menzshed will sort the culprit, just call 022 364 1940 – Ross or Bevan will sort it. [I haven't told Bevan yet :-)]

Feb 2018

Feb 2018

We've been quite busy with different things going on.
We have had people come in for personal tasks, it was good.
That is what Menzshed was originally for and evolving to what is and is to be. Brilliant.
Among others we have attended to:
Repaired an exterior tool box, temporary, will be finished Friday, by Elizabeth, a Sheddie.
We needed to trim border trees, this was done the day after a surprise birthday party, felt good starting. Thanks again for that Elizabeth. Nice job.
Doing this as well as sorting the shed interior.
We are starting to get a few people in to check Menzshed out, that's good. We don't really do membership with fees and such, you are welcome to use the place when you need to, we will be here.

Jimmy is popping in regularly doing his thing.
Bevan has been quite busy, starting with Predator free traps moving on to safe accommodation to water troughs, now doing shelves
Reminder to all.... leave water out for bees, birds etc, for bees etc, a shallow container with pebbles or small stones in with the water level so they can land on them and drink.
This is a unnoticed need.
Elizabeth is getting skills for her home jobs, she wants to build a chicken coop, good on her.
We nave not pursued Menzshed in it's fullest form as the Shed was only a shed for a while and setting up the interior was the priority.
As Steve Jardine stated after we saw the shed “The first project is the shed”
A bit later in 2018 the shed will be “Menzshed Wellington”

Many thanks to Chris Hare. He is refurbishing his house and giving us the good stuff that is left over from that type of job. A Surprise . PRIMO Buddy!!

Starting Again With Blog

This is a new blog page as the admin from the last one has seemingly disappeared
I'm new to this...so bare with me.

Some preceding notices that for some reason were not posted on the old blog page

APRIL
Gidday from Arcus Way, Hataitai. (by Hataitai Bowling Club)
(Nearly the end of April already), that's when we started it's May now, “time flies when you're having fun”, we have been quite busy with different repairs, replacements and walk ins.
We find ourselves open more days per week other than Wed and Fri. A few locals have popped in for small jobs, repairing house bits etc.
We have an IHC client coming in on Friday mornings.
We'll be putting up the Hataitai Community Notice Board up on Friday, fingers crossed........Done...sorted...put up.
All happy, got a few finishing touches of course.
We are in the middle of some play center refurbishing.
A garden chair, quite ornate, to return to new again.
We are to organise drivers for The New Tango Festival
from 5th - 8th July, if you have some free time I'll send you a schedule.
Any assistance with this will be good.
Just got an old comfy deck chair with one side rotting, Barbara sourced some nice heavy Malaysian timber for the job. That is coming along nicely.
There is an basket for an awesome tree carving that needs replacing
We are to check out a raised walkway, some material that need replacing. Yesterday we received some 3x2 for the job, thanks Chris.
All good so far, in general still things to do, then when that's done something else comes evident.

I'm posting this as it's taking a while, sometimes hard to find keyboard time.

Cheers
Ross
